A New Bus Lot at Woodson?
A Matter that Concerns the Entire Woodson Community

The Woodson PTSO has drafted a resolution regarding FCPS plans for a new bus lot very near Woodson High School. The proposed resolution will be presented to the PTSO membership at the September 14 for discussion and a vote.

Please read below about this new bus lot and its potential impact on the community, and please read and consider the PTSO's proposed resolution. Then, please plan on joining us Tuesday evening, September 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the Woodson library.

Property on the southwest corner of Little River Turnpike and Pickett Road (near Woodson and Frost) is under consideration to be a new bus lot, with 51 school buses plus 37 private vehicles of the drivers. There are many issues for each member of the immediate and the extended communities should consider. Congestion, security matters, added noise, and environmental concerns top the list, but there are many other items. Please read the background and information we have prepared.

After you have had a chance to read and consider this information, you are welcome to peruse our campus-comparison. We have constructed it in order to help demonstrate that the Woodson campus already has more than its share of FCPS-support facilities. Please click here.

You are also welcome to review some Documents of Interest relating to the substitution of "the Existing Eleven Oaks Property Bus Parking Lot with a Proposed Bus Parking Lot at Woodson High School (Corner of Pickett and Main Street)." Please peruse them, too, if you get a chance.

Frost-Woodson Special Services
Frost-Woodson Special Services is a parent-student-teacher interest group, affiliated with both the Woodson PTSO and the Frost PTA, whose goal is to provide information, resources, and support to students receiving special education services and their families. "Special education services" comprise a range of support, generally delivered through a student's IEP or Section 504 plan. Click here for a flyer about our activities. Understanding the Woodson Parent Pledge
The Woodson Community Coalition is in place to proactively support our parents and students regarding alcohol and drug abuse on our campus and in our community. We are one of many parent-led Community Coalitions who are active throughout Fairfax County schools. We are committed to offering educational seminars and other helpful information to our parents and students on the critical issue of alcohol and drug abuse.

The consequences for not engaging proactively on this topic are serious. So please, click here to read more on this important topic, and understand the purpose of the Woodson High School Safe and Drug Free Parent Pledge.

Mock ACT/SAT Exams
The Woodson PTSO offers students a chance to hone their college entrance exam test-taking skills through our "mock exam" program. On October 2 and January 8 we will offer full-length practice ACT and SAT exams. Scores are not "official" and are only released to students as a means of helping them identify areas of strength and areas needing improvement. The deadline to register for the fall practice exam will be Back-to-School Night (September 30).
