7th Annual “Saturday Night in the Suburbs”
Wednesday, March 10, 2010
Cafeteria A
Please join us for an evening of dialogue with a panel of Woodson seniors to discuss drugs, alcohol abuse, parties, the internet and communication with parents. This year’s panel will be moderated by Denise Raybon, Countywide Prevention Specialist and coordinator of the Youth Survey. You will find the evening very informative from the perspective of a teenager.

For more information, please contact Jennifer Lewis-Cooper at jalcooper@aol.com or 703-966-8304 or Cheryl King at happy2behome@aol.com.

Support Woodson's Cavalier Cruise
Through the Spring Flower Sale!
Cavalier Cruise is W.T. Woodson's 2010 all night drug- and alcohol-free graduation celebration!

Such an undertaking as the Cruise requires a full year of planning and lots of support from our local community. The WTW Spring Flower sale is a critical fundraiser to help meet the Cruise costs.

Please show your support for the Cavalier Cruise by purchasing flowers from Woodson! Order forms are available in the main office, or right here.

Deadline for ordering is April 9; plant pick up will take place on April 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Woodson Kiss and Ride parking drop off area located behind the school.

Questions? Please contact Kathy Snead at 703-591-1197 or sneads@earthlink.net.

Support Your School!
The Woodson PTSO provides refreshments for various school events, run the the Cavalier Cruise (an all-night graduation party), presents programs on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse, publishes the student directory, WEMail and this website, raises funds for teacher and student programs, organizes volunteers, provides parent feedback, and volunteers for innumerable other tasks that support our school. We always need more volunteers! Some committees continue throughout the school year, and others are active for a particular event. Your help is needed. We can't serve the school or our students without your help, so please contact Phyllis Payne, Volunteer Coordinator.

Planning Ahead
We're already planning for next year. Lots of important things to do! Please see our informational flyer.
Thank You!

Woodson Reads Needs Books!
The new reading for fun program through the English Department has really taken off, and we need your help.

While we are pleased so many students are enjoying a chance to read a book of their choosing, so much interest has depleted our classroom libraries. If you are doing some spring cleaning and decide it’s time to part with your gently used books, please send them to us! Any book that is in good condition and appropriate for high school readers would be much appreciated. We are hoping for a large number of fiction books, but age appropriate non-fiction is also welcome.

Simply have your student bring the books to his or her English teacher, and we will add those volumes to our shelves. Thanks for your support!

Understanding the Woodson Parent Pledge
The Woodson Community Coalition is in place to proactively support our parents and students regarding alcohol and drug abuse on our campus and in our community. We are one of many parent-led Community Coalitions who are active throughout Fairfax County schools. We are committed to offering educational seminars and other helpful information to our parents and students on the critical issue of alcohol and drug abuse.

The consequences for not engaging proactively on this topic are serious. So please, click here to read more on this important topic, and understand the purpose of the Woodson High School Safe and Drug Free Parent Pledge.

Celebrate the Completion of Woodson's Renovation!
"Buy a Brick"
A brick plaza is being installed between the auditorium and the front office entrance. It will be landscaped with small trees, planters, and a benches. The bricks will each be individually engraved.

Bricks are being sold individually for $100 each, and include up to three lines of engraving. If you have a student graduating this year -- or even if you don't -- what a great present a brick could be!
